Carota 0.1.4 script details Carota doesn't work like classic WYSIWYG editors at all. Instead of relying on HTML5's new contentEditable attribute, developer Daniel Earwicker followed in the footsteps of Google and Apple and developed his own text rendering engine.
The motivation behind this stems from the fact that HTML5 contentEditable produces different results in most browsers, while HTML5 canvas support renders out text in one single, uniform way.
Carota will produce the same looking results on all browsers, and using JSON to save the text, it can easily be passed between the client-server and vice-versa without having to deal with Markdown, BBCode, HTML, or other styling format.
